In this unique book, Ray McGinnis offers us a new, deeper, and more meaningful way to explore and understand the Psalms. Vividly connecting us with the original psalm writers, McGinnis discusses the intent and meaning of the historical psalms, and then sets us on a path to creating our own sacred poetry.
Explaining the various literary devices used, and the intention behind the various types of psalms, McGinnis leads us through sensory and poetic exercises designed to transform the reader into an inspired modern day psalmist

McGinnis, is determined to help people overcome their reluctance to compose their own psalms with his new book, Writing the Sacred: A Psalm-Inspired Path to Appreciating and Writing Sacred Poetry.
After detailing the various structures of the Psalms, McGinnis invites readers, to try their own hand at writing psalms of thanksgiving, of praise, of confession, of wonder, of creation and lament.
McGinnis's book encourages readers to access the alternatively uplifting and gut-wrenching emotions that were explored by the often-unknown authors of these age-old prayer-poem-hymns.

Excellent Resource
For years I've struggled with journaling. But Writing the Sacred gave me the tools I needed to put my journaling into poetic form. I feel as though I've given life, and validity, to my words.

Writing the Sacred offers Clarity, Scope and Depth
I have just finished reading your book, Writing the Sacred and am so impressed by its clarity, scope and depth.
I particularly liked Ray McGinnis' epilogue on page 189. His sensitive and articulate reflections on the way life comes to him; his accent on the positive, his not backing away from the difficulties, and his reliance on the God who seems to want us to be filled with love, are all at the heart of his sacred poetry. This is an inspiring book. Keep up the good work.
