Essential Spirituality for Our Day
Mission Statement
Our mission, undertaken through publishing, is to retrieve, reclaim, and renew the Christian tradition of living radical and inclusive love.
Values statement
We are passionate about supporting and encouraging
an emerging form of Christianity,
which is rooted in ancient wisdom
and attentive to the movement of spirit in our day.
This way is grounded in tradition
and requires us to be dedicated to spiritual practice,
and to living out our values in the world.
We are open and inclusive,
and honour the perennial wisdom
found in scripture and in all of the worlds enduring religions.
We affirm the equality of the sexes
and the godliness of people of all ages, races, and nationalities.
We understand that humans do not stand apart from creation,
but exist within a web of being that is sacred in all its aspects.
We emphasize a spirituality of transformation
rather than adherence to doctrine or belief.
History
Wood Lake Books began in 1982 when two writers decided to publish an occasional book in their spare time. Ralph Milton and James Taylor didnt think they were starting an industry. But now over 20 years later, Milton and Taylors small kitchen table operation has grown to be a publisher with over 1 million books printed. Wood Lake Books' products are inclusive, truth-seeking, and life-affirming.
The company was sold to employees in 1994. Since employee-ownership began the company has tried to carry out the original mission. In 1996, the imprint Northstone Publishing was created to reach out to a broader range of spiritual seekers. You will find books that celebrate the meeting places of the sacred and the ordinary in books about parenting and sexuality, stress and spirituality, health and well-being, and much, much more.
For over two decades we've been bringing readers unique, accessible perspectives on matters of soul and spirit essential spirituality for our day
